Secure sensitive data private research environment - SAPU
The private research environment for sensitive data called SAPU (in Estonian sensitiivsete andmete privaatne uurimiskeskkond) is a secure computing environment designed and offered by the University of Tartu HPC Center (UTHPC). In SAPU environment analysts can work on sensitive data, reducing the possibility of unauthorized copying, transfer or extraction of data and offering a higher security level than a standard high-performance computing cluster. The SAPU environment is a special and separate virtual machine that meets high-security requirements and is located in the UTHPC data center in Estonia.
Features:
- Each project uses its own SAPU environment that is not connected to other SAPU environments.
- Internet access is disabled on the SAPU machine.
- Data can be moved into the SAPU environment and out from the SAPU environment only with the consent and under supervision of the data owner.
- SAPU machine contains only the tools and programs that are necessary for the project.
- Without exception, all user activities are logged and can be audited.
As of May 2024, the SAPU environment has successfully passed the OWASP ASVS Level 3 security testing conducted by an external party.
